Treatment for Dual Diagnosis in the Community

To have a Dual Diagnosis means having a mental health condition and an addiction.  As I prepare for my “Mental Health Comes First” presentation at the International Dual Diagnosis convention next month in Chicago, I am pleased to learn that the treatment of choice is cognitive behavioural therapy for healing mental illness.

At Choose A Lifestyle the outpatient dual diagnosis program for mental health consists of two visits per week for 3 hours. This individualized multifaceted program lasts two months.

The maintenance component continues for another two months, being seen once a week for two hours. This program costs $4,000 for the 40 hours and support of the following professionals, Psychotherapist, Addiction Counsellor, Registered Practical Nurse, Psychiatrist and Psychologist.

The psychotherapy treatment consists of cognitive behavioural therapy, and understanding the relationship between thoughts and feelings. Coping strategies and learning new communication skills are emphasized to increase self-esteem and being more assertive.

Call your insurance provider for confirmation of coverage for this program.  Choose A Lifestyle is a private practice and fees are not covered by OHIP.
